Just maybe not one we'd normally associate with speaker cabinets, and probably marginally useful at best. I'd advise anybody considering such a test to limit their testing to a scale of less than 30 inches in a water column, not Hg(mercury) and NOT PSI.
But then again I have never been that rectal about it.. :Big smile:

You'd be surprised at some of the things people do with just enough knowledge to be dangerous.
Good buddy of mine thought he'd leak down test a 275 gal fuel tank. Unfortunately, he had no clue what the pressure limitations of the vessel might be, and apparently never gave it a thought. He estimates it was somewhere around 30 psi when one of the end welds let go. It cost him close to 3 grand to repair the neighbor's swimming pool, railing, and privacy fence where the remainder of the tank came in for a landing a couple hundred yards away. Thankfully, there were no injuries, and the neighbors are calm and reasonable people.

As they say there is no replacement for common sense that sometimes isn't so common. :wink2:
I apply "Murphy's Law" to everything to prevent such things happening in the first place..Especially to things that can go "BOOM" !

I tried to take a dent out of my Suzuki 90 gas tank once by pumping it full of 120 psi.... It spread far enough apart that it fell off the front pegs that rubber mount it to the frame. Damn dent didn't budge. :D

i'm still at it. I finally finished the rest of the cleats for the "horn, back board. and front lower face plate. for the back panel stiffeners I found some of the best looking 2x3" stock i've seen. the internal side stiffeners I used plywood on edge with 3/4" 1/4 round for extra purchase. i'm working on the finish now I almost have a decent blond stain that compliments the VOTT labels.

Yeah man!! Those are better constructed than the originals.

So to sum up, a vacuum test will tell you if your building skills suck?
Nice job BTW. Mine always look like boiler plate. Rock strong, just not so pretty. Comes from years of building cabinets that occasionally get dropped off a truck.
Re: might have lost my mind. thinking of building a7 cabinet
thanks guys.
I was going to go for the industrial look old guy. but I figured if I have to sell them,,,
and I was kinda kidding about the leak test. suffice to say the port will be as effective as it may ever be when they're done
I just about have the hang of this stain. get rid a couple more bloches and move on to clear acrylic.
I found home depot has 8" column form tube for 8$- 4.' It looks like a good thing for the ports. as long as it doesn't resonate on it's own.
sunday I have to go do a two week job. so I won't get this finished before I leave. I was hoping get this done in a few weeks. looks like it will be close to two months start to finish. :(
